Get A Grip - Goldmine
"With their jangly guitars, billowing keyboards and semi-psychedelic stance, England's Semion recalls the earnest but engaging delivery of prime retro revivalists such as The Church, Teenage Fanclub and Modern English. On Get A Grip (Semion SEMI 03CD), a rollicking seven-song set, the band strike a balance between visceral fuzz-drenched rockers such as Sunny, an ironic ode to summer, and chiming harmony-laden anthems such as I Can Dream All Day and Year Of The Monkee. In the overall scheme of things, the band break little new ground - groups such as Hefner and Guided By Voices have also revived this propulsive pop approach in recent years. Despite that, coming with little fanfare, 'Get A Grip' possesses a certain spark that quickly grabs attention."
